Who are we...?

We (Eddy and Caroline & 2 daughters) have lived at Higher Kingsland Farm, a Grade 2 listed thatched farmhouse, since moving to the area in 2010 from Hackney in East London. Shortly after moving here a chimney fire spread into the thatch and the house was almost totally gutted. It has taken a long time to rebuild the house and recover from the chaos that this threw into our lives. Opening The Cider House is a big step forward for us and we are very excited about sharing this great new space with our guests.

Caroline works for The Jurassic Coast Trust - a charity based in Bridport, which endeavours to promote, to encourage education about and access to the coast, and to protect its status as England's only natural World Heritage Site. She is very involved in the local community and is a great source of information on what to do in the area. Eddy works as a Location Manager finding locations for filming and photoshoots - recently opening a new Dorset-based film location company www.thewestcountryset.co.uk which provides locations for filming and photography in Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Devon and Cornwall. He is a keen cyclist who is very happy to share his knowledge of the best routes both on and off road for local rides to suit your ability.

We have always enjoyed having guests and particularly since moving here our home has been no stranger to hosting visiting friends and relatives. We hope we have transferred some of what we have learnt from having a busy and open house to how we have set up The Cider House. A lot of love and care has gone into fitting out and furnishing it and we have tried to do so with minimal environmental impact. Wherever possible in the renovation we re-used or re-purposed existing building materials and have ensured that the building is insulated beyond current building regulation requirements. The heating and hot water is from our wood-pellet boiler which also serves our main house.
